Where Are the Green Houses?

 

You may have noticed that in my Dreaming Home collection, there are no green houses. Red, blue, orange, yellow ochre, and mauve, but no green. Where is the green?

 

Dreaming Home takes place in the mind, in the early stages of imagining. The little houses materialize among (mostly) muted colors, neutrals, translucent layers, indistinct shapes, and fuzzy boarders. The mull (mesh) exists as a kind of scaffolding, but the elements are not rigid. The idea, the dream is still very loose and flexible in the mind's eye.  

 

There is no green besides one house in my Etsy shop. I tried, again and again, but green never felt right, and it didn't take me long to reason out why: green is grounding. When people start to spiral, we tell them to go touch grass, to come back down to earth. Green is the natural world, green is real. Dreaming Home is about those early possibilities, and the house colors aren't real-world, but emotional.

 

Personal preference also comes into play. I'm very picky about color and don't like most greens for myself, especially if they are bright and harsh. I prefer warm and blended colors, and consistently mixing the desired green frustrates me. But, most importantly, green just isn't right for Dreaming Home.
